Many believed that Russia\u2019s new found wealth would stabilise any threat of the political risk. However the fundamentals of an emerging market remain and food security is a top political priority and Russia dislikes being dependent on foreign food imports. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"justify;\"><span style=\"Calibri;\">Today the Russian population are exercising their new found purchasing power and are literally bringing home the bacon &#8211; and lots of it. <span style=\"yes;\">\u00a0<\/span>Russia\u2019s meat imports have been growing rapidly as domestic production has struggled to keep pace with demand.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><!--nextpage--><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"justify;\"><span style=\"Calibri;\">With increasing feed costs the <span style=\"yes;\">\u00a0<\/span>\u2018Agro-holdings\u2019 <span style=\"yes;\">\u00a0<\/span>who produce the lions share of meat for the affluent residents of St Petersburg and Moscow have been struggling to maintain profit and production growth <span style=\"yes;\">\u00a0<\/span>has been hindered. <span style=\"yes;\">\u00a0<\/span>Despite Russia\u2019s abundant production of grain and oilseed, these raw materials have been destined for the lucrative export market rather than meeting domestic feed requirements.<span style=\"yes;\">\u00a0 <\/span>Subsequently Agro-Holdings have actively encouraged the State\u2019s seizure of the grain and oilseed exports as this will ensure a supply of affordable feed ingredients. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"justify;\"><span style=\"Calibri;\">The Agro-holdings are therefore satisfied with the States increasing nationalisation of grain exports.
