Peru: ready, steady, fish

Outlook for the fish meal and oil markets are for increasing prices. The annual Peruvian fishing season (Peru commanding 30% of the worlds fish meal production) will be open as of April 21st – It will last just 3 months and catch quotas are at 3 million tons, 1 million tons for each month which will drive prices northward until towards the end of June when the catch starts to meet demand. Fish oil demand and prices are remaining high with increasing interest from the food industry driven by the ‘functional food’ aspect of Omega 3 – found in potent form in fish oil.
