Russia protects domestic meat production.

Russia – with its vast areas of land, has been a favourite for foreign investors anxious to get a piece of the current agri-investment action. Many believed that Russia’s new found wealth would stabilise any threat of the political risk. However the fundamentals of an emerging market remain and food security is a top political priority and Russia dislikes being dependent on foreign food imports.

Today the Russian population are exercising their new found purchasing power and are literally bringing home the bacon – and lots of it.  Russia’s meat imports have been growing rapidly as domestic production has struggled to keep pace with demand.
